So today, let’s focus on the 6 duties under the Standard of Care, in the order they appear in the book:
Duty to Supervise - Are students actively monitored during labs, demonstrations, fieldwork, and hands-on STEM activities?

What research can have the greatest impact to improve quality of life of persons in North America’s Tribal Nations?
The DAWES Act of 1887 disrupted traditional tribal structures, sense of place, weakened tribal sovereignty and culture. The residue of Dawes yet remains a blight on Native Americans history and culture.

Native American reservations are designated areas of land set aside by the United States government for Native American tribes. The history of reservations is intricately linked to the complex and often tragic relationship between Native Americans and the U.S. government. Despite the challenges, Native American reservations remain vital centers of cultural preservation. They are home to diverse traditions, languages, and art forms that have been passed down through generations. The same can be said about the indigenous people of Alaska, Australia, and Pacific Islands.

How is Policy for Education and Scientific Research Stifling Innovation, Equity, and Creativity for an Economic Future that Benefits All?

Despite rapid advancements in technology and global connectivity, current policies governing education and scientific research remain outdated, underfunded, and inequitable. This essay argues that rigid testing mandates, siloed academic structures, and risk-averse research funding stifle creativity, limit access, and reinforce systemic inequities - undermining the development of the critical thinking and problem-solving skills needed for a thriving digital economy.

Reimagining an embodied STEAM education as a thriving space for learning that fosters relationships

As a woman from North Africa who has lived on four continents and raised two boys, I have been part of the diaspora in the United States for nearly two decades. In America -- a land that has been colonized and where Indigenous communities have faced centuries of oppression and erasure -- my work in education is profoundly influenced by decolonial scholars, Indigenous researchers, and Black feminists.

The Power of Inclusive Mentoring

Mentoring has been one of the most transformative parts of my career, not just as a professor and researcher, but as someone deeply committed to equity in higher education. I do not see mentoring as a favor or an obligation. I see it as a relationship built on mutual respect, trust, and growth. When done well, mentoring does not just shape the mentee—it changes the mentor, too.
