In Europe, the lack of diversity, and specifically, gender diversity, is one of the key problems that both technological companies and academia are facing these days. Women make up just 34 % of the STEM graduates in the EU. According to the NSF, the US STEM workforce is 89% white and 72% male, so enhancing diversity with more persons from underrepresented groups just makes good sense because people with different backgrounds have different experiences and perspectives, ask different questions, and develop more innovative solutions.

Science/Engineering workforce diversity is not just a metric for reflecting social responsibility, it is an economic imperative for today’s competitive global economies.
